A Centre Dedicated to Skin, Hair and Nail Health
Chennai Skin Foundation & Yesudian Research Institute was established as a comprehensive centre for the diagnosis, treatment, education and research of skin, hair and nail disorders.
Inspired by the principles of our mentor, Prof. Patrick Yesudian, the institute was created to bring specialised dermatological services together under one roof. Our approach combines clinical expertise, advanced diagnostic facilities, structured treatment protocols, professional training and patient education.
The institute is guided by the principle “Primum Non Nocere” — “First, Do No Harm.” This philosophy shapes every aspect of our work, from clinical decision-making and treatment planning to research, education and community service.
Skin Health Is More Than Appearance
The skin is the body’s largest organ. Along with the hair, nails, glands and nerve endings, it performs several essential functions, including protection, temperature regulation, sensation and the reflection of internal health.
Skin disorders can affect far more than physical appearance. They may influence a person’s comfort, confidence, emotional wellbeing, relationships, employment and overall quality of life.
Conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, immunological disorders and lymphoproliferative diseases require accurate diagnosis, specialist evaluation and long-term medical care. Delayed treatment, misinformation and unscientific remedies may worsen these conditions and increase the physical, emotional and financial burden experienced by patients.
Addressing Myths and Misinformation
Many skin conditions are misunderstood or incorrectly labelled. Some patients experience social stigma because of the mistaken belief that every visible skin disorder is contagious.
Conditions such as vitiligo may be incorrectly associated with leprosy, while chronic diseases such as psoriasis are sometimes promoted as permanently curable through unproven treatments. Psoriasis is generally a long-term condition that may not have a permanent cure, but it can often be effectively controlled with appropriate medical care.
Chennai Skin Foundation is committed to establishing facts, correcting misconceptions and helping patients make informed decisions based on scientific evidence.
Education, Research and Professional Training
Patient education is an important part of dermatological care. When people understand their condition, possible triggers, treatment options and the importance of follow-up, they are better equipped to participate in their own care.
The institute also supports dermatology education and professional development through clinical training, academic discussions, workshops and research activities. By connecting treatment with education and research, we aim to contribute to the continued advancement of dermatological science.
Our Aims and Objectives
Our work is centred on five primary objectives:
- To break myths and establish reliable facts about skin, hair and nail disorders.
- To discourage quackery and promote ethical, evidence-based treatment.
- To educate patients, families and communities about dermatological health.
- To provide comprehensive diagnostic, preventive, treatment and research facilities.
- To make specialised dermatological care accessible and affordable.
Compassionate and Responsible Care
Every patient’s condition, medical history and treatment needs are different. Our objective is to provide appropriate and personalised care while respecting the patient’s dignity, concerns and quality of life.
Through clinical excellence, education, research and community engagement, Chennai Skin Foundation & Yesudian Research Institute continues to work towards better understanding, better treatment and better outcomes for people living with skin, hair and nail disorders.
