Dr S Murugusundram is an interventional dermatologist and a Dermato-Trichologist, founder and medical director of Chennai Skin Foundation & Yesudian Research Institute, the first comprehensive centre of academic excellence with complete diagnostic, treatment, research and training facilities for Skin, Hair & Nail disorders in the country. He graduated from Kilpauk medical college and did his post-graduation in dermatology from Madras Medical College.
He is an innovative specialist in skin hair & nail with unique skills of systematic analysis, evidence based diagnosis, expertise in modern treatments with current updates of technology and a keen interest in research.
He is the founder Secretary of the Hair Research Society of India and founder and executive Editor of the International Journal of Trichology. He is the founder of the Vitiligo academy of India.
His experience in analyzing and treating Skin disorders is more than 20 years. He has achieved many milestones in dermatology such as systematic analysis, discovery of new disorders, Invention of new techniques for the diagnosis, Clinical trials of novel therapeutic agents, Research in stem cells, teaching in the form of lectures and workshops and authoring text books. His recent publication on trichology is “Spectrum of Clinical Hair Disorders – A century of cases” which has been approved by the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University.
His long cherished dream of starting an Institutional center for Skin Hair & Nail dedicated to his mentor Prof. Patrick Yesudian whose principles form the basis of this unique concept was fulfilled on 7th March 2012. The institute has all the facilities for diagnosis and advanced treatment of skin, hair and nails disorders with sophisticated equipments and exclusively dedicated facilities involving all the latest techniques. The Institute has teaching and training facilities for nurses, post graduate students and practicing doctors.
He regularly organizes patient education and awareness programs for major diseases in skin such as Vitiligo, Psoriasis and Leprosy at his Institute every month, in a mission to establish facts and abolish myths about skin diseases. For the first time in the history of medicine, THOL MALAR, a monthly magazine in Tamil has been brought out by him to educate the general public in their own language about skin diseases.
He conducts free skin camps regularly in rural areas with distribution of free medicines which are attended and benefited by large number of deserving patients. Poor patients are treated totally free of cost with free medicines at both his clinics every Friday. A fully equipped rural community skin centre with free consultation and medicines is established by him at Chunampet in Kancheepuram district.
He has been awarded the “Best Doctor” by the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University this year (2012)
He had successfully conducted 3 International conferences on hair, Hair India 2010, 2012, 2014.
